|
|
Please be aware of the following
Basically the problem is when you pair a mobile with the unit and select any POI any try to dial the number the number will not dial due to the number format within the software.
Give it a go
This as this is one of the main reasons why I purchased Garmin.
I have been on the phone 4 times to Garmin directly with no success all I have been advised is to send an email to the US advising of the problem.
I have also contacted the local Garmin Rep in QLD but the mobile message bank is fill, have sent an email today waiting on a reply. Have also sent an email to Garmin Customer support.
Can anyone advise who else I can contact to have this fixed?
Regards
David

Hello
I have my phone paired and if the phone Icon is in the favourite then pushing it works
To put a phone into a POI I have found I need to use a Garmin GPX file with proximity alert and phone dial.
GPS POI Directory is specifically designed to produce and edit GPX files destined for Automotive Satnav GPS systems. It is envisaged that such files will be used as input to Garmin's POI Loader and then turned into Custom POI's (Points of Interest).
Hope this helps

Hi,
You can create POI file with phone support field with POI Editor for Garmin GPX. You can load any CSV file, or simply create a new one.
The format is:
Longitude, latitude, name [@speed], address >+phonenumber
Example:
-73.9741766, 40.7567337, The Waldorf Astoria, 301 Park Avenue; Manhattan; New York City >+212 355 3000
Save the file using a GPXx button.
Cheers

I have a Nuvi 760 with V4.20 in Australia, another issue that needs to be addressed for all Australian users is that POI Dialling will not work.
Tried this on my 760 with 4.20 and verified it the number used was + 2-99##-#### and it did not work
I copied to my favourites and it also did not work. The problem is that when the International code "+" is used the international prefix is required so the number should be +61 2-99##-#### tried this in a favourite and it worked.
Had a look in mapsource and the number only has the the area code in the form "7" rather than "07" so waht the navigator needs to do is add the correct international prefix to make the number work eg "+61" for Australia
Further to the POI dialing problem
It could be debateable as to whether is issue is Garmin or the Maps provider. If the map provider had the international code in the POI then the dial would work. This would allow anyone, anywhere in the world to load Australain maps and dial the number and it would work.
If Garmin added the local International code the maps would only work inside australia, or the country of origin of any maps.
Maybe we should start a thread on this and see if it is an issue across the board

I have a Nuvi 760 with V4.80 in Australia with the just released Australian 2010.1 maps.
The POI dialling bug stills exists.
Tried with both LG T500 and Nokia 6120

Upgrade your Nuvi760 to V4.90 which is the latest software upgrade available.
Didn't have time to fully test POI dialling to see if the bug is still there

I have upgraded to 4.90 and the problem is still there. I have had a Garmin support case number for three months. They said that there is a later map than 2010.10 but want me to pay another $190 odd.
Is there a later nuvi model that will POI dial using bluetooth as I think I have a case to have it replaced with a model that will do what Garmin advertised the nuvi 760 would do.

Did you 'hard reset' your unit after upgrade to v.4.90?
It always helps/works in case of any nuvi..
Make sure to backup your POIs' before hard reset.

Contacted Garmin, they sent me 2010.20 map.
I did a hard reset, installed the map and did another hard rest.
Problem this there. Two hours later the unit went bellyup and its now on its way back to Garmin.
Did the nuvi 765 have the same bug as it seems to have the same features?

I think your problem was with the software NOT maps.
Connect your unit and go to myGarmin > myDashboard just to see if you need a software update. It's free.
Even with you have the latest v 4.90 you still need to connect to myDashboard and update this way.
Only when myDashboard say that you have the latest firmware makes sense to go further.
The next step would be to see if POIs' are correctly installed via POI Loader (make sure you have the latest version -again)
Always hard reset the unit AFTER installing maps or serious firmware update not before!
You don't need to do it after myDashboard update (unless it says otherway)
