|
|
Hi guys, I know this has been answered before but as a real technophobe I was hoping for a definitive easy to follow ( I really am quite slow on the uptake with these things) guide.
I have downloaded a few POI's in the UK and while some show the picture icon...ie fish and chip shops, others just have the red square...namely Toby carveries and Harvester restaurants.
How can I change these to correct icon?
Do I do it through the Tom tom or do I do it through my Pc?
Where are the files stored and how do I access them or as I fear am I that far behind with technology do I just give up and make do with what I have?
I'm only 37 and am suddenly feeling a little old!!!
Please put me out of my misery Thanks

Pop, make sure that you have BMP file with EXACTLY the same name as the OV2 file. They are located in your map folder.
You should download or make your own icon if it is missing...

| I had the same problem when I installed the POI icons in my TomTom GO 300. I resized all my BMP icons to be 22x22 sized using PaintShopPro. Next I made sure the OV2 filename was exactly the same as the BMP filename. Any funny characters or spaces in the filenames I replaced with "_" underscores just to be dilligent. The two files go in the map directory on the GPS for the country you are using. All mine work now after taking the above simple steps.

| Do the bitmaps have to be 22 x 22 or can they be made bigger?

I've seen multiple posts about the 22x22 size, so I just standardized on that because I know it works. When I download the icons, I just automatically resize them using Paint Shop. Many of the icons are already set at this size, but a lot of them are 14x14 thru 26x26, or not even square. Maybe they work OK on the Garmin and Magellan at a larger size, but I have not tried it on the TomTom.
Just for fun, resize one of them, reload it, and see what happens. At some point, the code will either limit the size or not display anything at all. Let me know what happens.
If you look at the stock factory-supplied BMP icon for TomTom, it is 32x32 pixels. Whether that is the limit, or TomTom scales it down to 22x22 I haven't tested. The size of the 22x22 when it is shown doesn't crowd the display, and that's what works for me ultimately.

This is correct the BMP has to have the exact same name as the OV2 file.
