Just a question, or maybe more a point. It costs money to register on this sight correct? And Registration is required to add new POI's, even for the freely Downloadable POI's? So effectivly I am being charged to register so I can contribute to this site and add data that may be useful to others who may then decide to register or even buy a subscription to this site due to (in part) my contribution? Does anyone see the irony in this situation? Is this something that is going to be addressed or do you intend to just keep things this way to get as much money as possible (and probably discourage more people from adding the location of their local ATM's, restraunts, shopping centers, etc)? I understand that this may be a security measure to make sure POI's are real and noone messes up your data but I think there has to be another way to work this.
That said I am thinking of becoming a customer buy purchasing access to your Speed Camera Locations etc. If I do this will my regerstration become persistent even after my subscription terminates? Ie can I still log in with my subscription username and password after the subscribtion has expired just to do things like add POI's etc? Or do I get locked out with that username and password from everything when my subscription runs out?
Don't get me wrong I think this service is great. But if it is free to download the POI's for my bank's ATM's, why then should I be charged for the "privilage" to add new locations?
Thanks,
Spith |

Hi
You've got all correct! You can download free POIs even without subscription. The lifelong Speed and Red camera database registration costs less then a monthly subscription for a Uniden GPS. You will still be able to manage your own POIs and to promote your business. Similar service costs 10 times more elsewhere.

Correct again.
Why would any end user pay for POI files that business owners want to list. On the other side, we can see a lot of reasons why to publish POIs and to advertise various business GPS locations...

Interesting point.
But my guess is a small percentage of the people here on this site intentionally came ONLY to contribute POI info to everyone else & not to find POI data initially. Plus I guess you don't know what a POI file DOESN'T have until you actually download & use it first (which is what attracted people here in the first place).
Plus I think it removes the ability for casual users to annoy the rest of us by deleting or adding fake records for a small kick. By ensuring registered users are the only ones who can add, there is a level of trust that additions are genuine.
OK, I didn't consider the free POI's. But in that defence aren't I correct in assuming the free ones aren't as complete/uptodate, etc as the paid ones.
I guess it really boils down to the fact that if your willing to contribute info, your taking the whole GPS thing a bit more seriously then your casual user, in which case you'd make use of other POIs & services on this site. So you'd probably be a member anyway.

Understanding the setup, maintenance and time involved in keeping a site/forum such as this it is worth every penny.
Thought has been given to Spamming and the "silly ones" that would find fun in posting incorrect information - by paying this does eliminate or lessen the odds of it happening.
Very well thought out - Thanks

| The cost(s) to join this site & update POI files is pennies when you compare the time you might waste looking for something you don't even know exists wherever you are or are going. It UNDOUBTUBLY PAYS FOR ITSELF when you get traffic camera/speed camera alerts

| It's worth a few bucks for the great features of this site. It is also nice to others when you alert gps-data-team via your device of POI's that may not be "in their system".

I don't think this is in anyway ironic as for a very small fee you can add your business to POI files downloaded by loads of people and your business is there on there Sat Navs.
In terms of advertising this is pretty deep penetration into peoples everyday lives and it is just a very small one off fee. Worth it as far as I am concerned.
