It is an alcohol fuel made from plant material and rubbish and not a petroleum-based fossil fuel. Another advantage of E85 is a higher octane rating, which improves engine performance and reduces engine heat and wear. Because the ethanol component effectively displaces fossil fuels with energy harvested from renewable sources, E85 is less carbon intensive than conventional gasoline.
