Hello,

I'm a member of the Italian VolvoClub and I'm writing to ask on behalf of our community a small modification or add-on to your excellent POI editor/converter ( https://www.gps-data-team.com/convert/ ).

The problem
Many of us are using the converter to translate a csv list of speed cameras to a gpx file compatible with Volvo Sensus navigator (models 2014 or later).

Setting the appropriate options in the converter (output format = Volvo, line format = CR, encoding = UTF-8, accents = remove accents) it is possible to output a gpx file that can be imported via USB to Sensus Navigator into "Stored positions", which are basically user generated POIs.
Those Stored locations appear on the Sensus maps but are not audio alarmed (no audio proximity alert), event if the option to enable proximity alerts is enabled on the Sensus navigator

The solution
We took the time to perform an extended troubleshooting on:
- Sensus Navigator hardware options
- gpx file outputted by the converter, comparing it to a gpx file exported via USB from the Sensus.

So we found that:
- attribute "href" in tag <gpx:link> *must* be empty (<gpx:link href=""></gpx:link>) for Sensus to play a "boing" sound when appraching a stored location. If it is not, as in the gpx produced by the converter, Sensus does not play any sound.

- attribute "creator" in tag <gpx:gpx> *should* be empty: if it is not Sensus takes a very long time to import and process the file.

- the proximity alert generated by the converter (9 seconds before the position) is the Sensus default but a bit too short for dealing with a speed camera on the road.
So converter should use longer default (i.e. 30 secs)
or even better consider user input in options > Default proximity alerts: currently the values of the popup menu are distances not seconds, converter should read the user choice and generate the right XML
(now <gpxv:Activity Active="false" Level="warning" Unit="second" Value="9"></gpxv:Activity>
should be: <gpxv:Activity Active="false" Level="warning" Unit="kilometer" Value="user input here"></gpxv:Activity>)

The request
Could you kindly implement the above modifications to the code for "Volvo" output format?
Or add a "2014-2017 Volvo" option?

Many thanks!

Mark

Thanks Guido,

Easy. Andrew implemented all requested changes. Please feel free to test if it works as you wish.

You can set distances using the Proximity selection (bottom left corner), or the Options meny (top left corner).
Andrew also implemented all changes to our POI Download zone: https://poi.gps-data-team.com/

Thanks again for helping us to improve our POI Editor and online GPS tools.

Hi Mark,
Thank you, the XML output by the new option "Volvo 2014 " looks good!

There's only a little glitch, in this tag:
<gpxv:Activity Active="true" Level="warning" Unit="kilometer" Value="500"></gpxv:Activity>

When testing the converter I've chosen "500 meters": the "value" attribute should be divided by 1.000
Alerting the user 500 km before the point is a bit too early Smile Smile

Thanks again
Guido

PS
not important, but if you want the cleanest output remove the spaces or tabs before this tag:
<gpxv:Presentation ShowOnMap="true"></gpxv:Presentation>

Hi Mark and Andrew,
thanks for fixing the kilometer issue, works well now!
Excellent work.

We wanted to share a couple of other "advanced" possible improvements to help less skilled users:

- when choosing "Volvo 2014" from menu, the parameters in "options" window should automatically be set to:
Default proximity alerts: 500m
Default line format: <CR>
Default encoding: utf-8
Accents: remove accents

- allow to use "seconds" in Default proximity alerts (i.e. 9, 15, 20, 30, 45, 60)
it's a smart way to alert the driver, because meters/feet tend to come too early or too soon depending on the speed (500mt take a lot of time if you're crusing at 50kmh, much much less if speeding at 160Kmh on a motorway)
The XML attribute "unit" in tag <gpxv:Activity> have to be changed accordingly to the user choice of course
