Hi,
Sorry but I am new on this.
I have a new Suzuki S-Cross with a Garmin Infotainment System but the Owner's Manual DOES NOT tell me what model is?
Does any one can tell me the model number?
Also I want to download the POI for safety cameras (as currently they are not in the unit) How do I do it and what files should I download from this site?
I highly appreciate any help with this.. as I am very ignorant and not very computer literate... Question Question

Hi
Your car dealer should help with that.
Can you find any SD Card/USB port on your unit? Download a basic GPX file for Garmin, save it to your USB or SD, put it in your device and restart your GPS unit.

Hi Mark,
Thank you very much for your quick response.
The car dealer is no help as this is a new model car. (although I believe Suzuki's car use Garmin unit since 2010).
Yes the car have a SD car to up-grade firmware.. I already use it and work fine as I up-dated to the latest firmware.
If I have the model then I should be able to download the correct POI safety files.. or maybe I don't need the model number???

Hi
You do not need the model number. The GPX file should work on any Garmin unit.

Mark,
Well I got up to downloading all the POI onto an SD card with the folder name Garmin and a subfolder Poi.
The file name created in the subfolder Poi is: custom POIs.gpi type GPI file size 1,181KB.
the only other file is: GarminDevice.xml (outside the subfolder Poi). This was created when I inserted the SD car into the car GPS as this confirmed the unit ID in order to use it in the Garmin POI loader on my computer.
I tried to download into my car GPS but nothing!
In reality I don't know how to do this so I am waiting for support from Garmin.
Hope they can help me with instructions on how to download the files as I believe I am on the right path.
I will let you know either way.
Regards,
Oscar

Hi Oscar,
If you placed GPX file and it did not work, I would try the last resort. Create a GPI file with Garmin's POI Loader, Save it to your SD card and see if it helps. It would be much easier if the dealer provided some manual in addition to the invoice for his service.

HI
I HAVE A REPONSE FROM GARMIN AUSTRALIA:
"Hi Oscar

Thank you for contacting Garmin Australasia.

Upon further review of our L2 team, they said that the unit that you have does not support custom POI and there is no means to install it.
If you have further questions, please feel free to contact Garmin Product Specialist on AUS 1800235822 or NZ 0800 427 652 or contact us via email au.service@garmin.com.

Thanks"

WHAT A BIG DISAPOINTMENT!! YOU CAN DOWNLOAD POI ON A $200 UNIT BUT NOT ON THIS THAT I PAID ~ $2000 EXTRA ON MY CAR PRICE!!
NOW I LOOSE ALL CONFIDENCE ON GARMIN AS A FORWARD SUPPLIER OF GPS DEVICES!. Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

Hi Oscar,

I am truly sorry for that useless response. I can only tell my humble opinion: if the unit has a brain (any processor inside the box) and a port (SD/USB/serial), than you CAN install or update it's software and data.

Wait and see - I expect soon they will send you a mail with a map update offer for a bargain price of just $700.

At least you can enjoy driving an excellent new car with a 12V lighter to plug in some GPS or smartphone.

Hi Mark,
What you said is true, as I have already done a firmware up-date via SD card when I received the car, and this works perfectly.
So the brain of the unit knows how to handle new information, that is why is annoying not to be able to download POI. Anyway, I love my new little car so I suppose now I will see if I can install POI on my IPhone?? and use it to keep me out of trouble with speeds tickets.

You can, but it'll fry your iPhone, or at least make it power-dry fast. A dedicated, portable GPS unit (any brand) is still the gold standard ( if it allows POI updates).

I live in uk and have a 2017 vitara all my sat doesn't have poi either. What a joke. Spoke to Suzuki - not help at all. I have another car with Aponia sat nav system, brilliant, displays everything. Vitara cost nearly £23,000 with a crap sat nav.

Post Unforgiveable Suzuki-Bosch-Garmin rip-off

I'm having the same problem. Just bought a new Vitara S and the Garmin-Bosch Satnav has NO speed camera POIs and the salesmen of the car company I bought it from shy away from any tech help - it is beyond them apparently. I presumed that Garmin would try to squeeze me for a further payment for the camera POI file but I already have all cameras in the U.K. in my smartphone Satnav App.

It is unforgiveable that Garmin-Bosch-Suzuki would make life difficult for users as speed-camera locations are in my view one of the most important safety features of a Satnav system. How and why can other map providers include these with free regular updates which users are automatically informed about and install themselves in your phone without worry when Garmin/Suzuki refuses to do so, AND make updating of their system into some kind of arcane art. Then, when customers who try to go it alone find their software crashes no doubt they'll charge them a fortune to have it reprogrammed. These kind of restrictive practices would be banned by the EEC if it were any good at protecting customers' interests.

Looks like I'll simply not use the head-unit in the car and instead plug in my Samsung phone and rely on it instead! What a shower! Black Mark for Suzuki's customer relations department.

Post Suzuki warning POI's

Hi, I have just purchased a Vitara sport which didn't have speed camera warnings, this is the full touch screen infotainment unit. After spending a day on the internet and trying various different POI files I have finally got it working:
- I found a Nissan POI file in CSV format,
- created a directory on a USB stick called myPOIs, as per the manual,
- then added directories for both Nissan files with the prefix "myPOIWarnings_",
- then added the files to the relevant directories, changing the file names to also start with "myPOIWarnings_".
- Then started the sat nav, put the USB stick in and it asks if you want to load POI's, say yes, they load up

Now I get warnings pop up and the image on the nav, I haven't checked if warnings appear when nav isn't open.
